FASTING

The Islamic Law of Fasting

Children below 12 years, sick patients, travellers, and women who are menstruating or nursing a baby are exempted from fasting. In addidtioan to staying away from food or water for the whole day, the Muslim are asked to stay away deom sex, smoking or misconduct durinf the period of fasting. In addition, they are encourage to do more acts of piety i.e. prayer, charity or reading holy Quran during this month.

When one fast, its lowers his blood pressure and insulin level. This causes breakdown of glycogen from liver to provide glucose for energy need and breakdown of fat from adipose tissue to provide for energy needs.

According to the research done at The Faculty of Homeopathic Medicine, Pair Mas, Kelantan, Malaysia, it is noted that " Fasting brings a wholesome physiological rest for the digestive tract and central nervous system and normalizes metabolism."
